Transferring to Tianmo

Good morning Awesome family well it is morning here but it is more like night there. Hello. I am emailing really early today because I am moving today and I have to go back to Taibei. Yup, I am moving back to almost my first area, it is called Tianmo. It almost to Shipai, not quite that far and I'm about a 20 to 25 min MRT ride away from the mission office. I'll tell you about it in a sec but want to tell you that I'm early today sorry.

So you know that I am moving to a place called Tianmo, but I still have not told you one thing... I am going to be the district leader. I am going to be companions with a new elder this will be his second transfer in Taiwan. Wow I'm not sure about this. No it will be fun I'll be able to do it. I am not sure how to spell his name right now and so I will let you know what it is next time I email. I don't know because how he says his name and how I was told it was spelt are different, so I'll see in a few hours. I'm going to be taking a 7:06 train that is a bit faster, and will get to Taipei at about 8:20, so it will be interesting. I do not know who is in my district and I'm not sure where they all are yet but I'll let you know. I know a bit about Tianmo I can tell you about. It is one of the most expensive places in Taiwan and it is not like normal Taiwan. The streets are wider and there are not a lot of stores. A lot of people say they think that it is smaller than Xinzhu so it will be fun to see. So now I'll be alot closer and be able to go get mail sooner and get them faster than here in Xin Zhu.

This week was interesting we have several things happen and it was fun to see. We can start with last Monday. We went to Costco to meet with Jerry. I'll include a photo of Jerry.
We meet with him every week at Costco. Thank you for a Costco card. While we were there Elder Millett sees some hamburger pattys and long story short we buy them and take them home to eat this week. They were soooo good. Taiwan has places with hamburgers that you can buy but they turn out to be about 60 quai for a good one,and these patty's worked out to be about 21 per hamburger. So this week we had hamburgers almost every meal; for lunch and dinner. There was 25 hamburgers in the package and since we didn't have a grill we had to make do with a pan. Reminded me of home. Another thing that we found was A&W root beer. That was good we had Rootbeer floats, it was really fun to remember fun times at home.



This week we met with quite a few people. We had 18 lessons and so that is not a few, but not the 20+ that I have had before. It is interesting to see how people work. We found some cool people last week and I'll miss seeing the investigators that we have when I go to the new area but it is a calling and so I'll go. Anyway ya we met with a bunch of people we have about 5 people that are going to be able to get baptized soon but can't right now because of word of wisdom problems. They have a plan to quit and they will be able to get their goal. It is amazing to see someone that when we met them there was not a lot of interest or understanding. To watch them change and come to Christ and our Father in Heaven and have a change of heart. It is so awesome and sad when you have to leave them and go to another place. Thank goodness that I can hear from them every now and then.

Battling the Unknown

Good Morning America. This is Elder Harr and I'm doing well. This week had a bunch of funny story's and fun things that happened. I'll start with a sad but funny story about an investigator that shows us that Satan is real and he will use any route to stop us from doing good.

This story starts last Saturday. We were going to meet with a man named Daniel Huang3, he is one of our best investigators right now and he is working on overcoming a problem with the word of wisdom. when we taught him the word of wisdom about two weeks ago he said he wanted to quit smoking and now is down to half of what he was smoking before. Well he had work Saturday morning and afternoon and our time to meet was in the evening. That day for lunch a co-worker invited him to go to lunch on his lunch hour with the rest of the office. Sounds good so they all went. When they sat down to eat they had a good some what big meal put before them that was really good. Now here's the problem. After he had eaten the food he started to feel dizzy and got a headache. He asked his friend what was in the food and his friend told him that he wanted to flavor the food really well so he had put a bunch of alcohol in the food. Well Daniel does not really drink, and the alcohol was not cooked out all the way and so poor Daniel was drunk. He went home early from work and called me and said I'm sooo sorry but it is not safe for me to drive to the church to meet with you and I live a ways away, can we set up another day? Kind of sad because he couldn't meet with us but kind of funny in that he is doing so well. He is doing amazing and then his friend gets him drunk without asking him if he wanted to.

This is story number one. These photos are from last Preparation day we went to see the Dragon Boat Races. Fun stuff. We went and flew a kite after.




OK so lets see this week was interesting we had some weird meetings that we are still trying to find out how to proceed. This last week we met with a man that had met with missionary's before and we where asked to meet with him by a member. YES Member referral the best in the world. But this men is interesting. When we met with him last week he pulled out a DVD and wanted to show us a part of a movie we told him that it was OK but he put it in anyway saying that his was his view on church and that this was what he thought so me and my companion are lost can't he just tell us his view we said again let's just talk about it and he said basically said no I've watched your movies and now you can watch this part. OK what could it hurt. Well he put in a movie about the Dark ages and the wars and battles that when on in that time and it had several actual people from history in this story. After we watched a part he said "I am like this man I don't belong to any church and yet I am the only one that it still going to do good. All the other people use the church and the churches name, they all use Jesus Christ to get power." Well, we bore testimony and we told him that this is why we needed a restoration because that time there was a lot a of unjust things that happened, and then we left. Wow. Interesting there are so many people that do, do good and do, do bad. I am glad that I know that this church is true because it is the same with everything, if you look hard enough you will always find the bad.

Another story for this week: this week at English class we had alot of new people like 8 new people! They all had heard about English class that week or through a friend. Five of the eight lived in my area and 4 of those five set up to meet with us one of these people is Allen. Allen is really cool. We met him on Wed, met with him on Saturday and taught him a bunch. Then invited him to come to church. He showed up on time in a shirt and tie. This was a miracle. We wanted to invite him for baptism but when we invited him to come to church he was like maybe I just want to understand what his church is about right now. Anyway, he came ready to learn and had a good time. There are always prepared people where ever you are you just need to find them.

Ok quickly about the bike. I am in contact with a Mr. White from specalized and he asked me so resend him some photos. Would you mine sending them to him please? I also gave Mr. White the email for Lukas. Could you see if they have been in contact about bike info? I'll call him later today to make sure that he got it but just to make sure please? Thank you. Also, I learned how to buy bike tires for my bike I just need to go through Taipei. I'm sorry that I had you buy that other tire. Hold onto it we'll use it there, and I'll buy one here and it will be cheaper then sending that one. I'm sorry I'm still learning.

The last one is a photo of my apartment building. There is also a few more photos of kites and going to play. Today we are going to go and play some basketball. It is going to be fun. Word of Wisdom Miracles

Hey Awesome Family good morning.

Hey awesome family are you all still alive? How was the trek? As everything I'm sure that it was awesome. Thank you for all that you do to help others learn and grow. I'm sure that you are still working on recovering from that, so don't worry about emailing me because you all are still running a thousand directions, but remember that every now and then it is ok to slowdown for a small break and then hit it hard again. You are so awesome. Thank you for your example, you all are so amazing. It sounds like the trek was a great success and that people will remember it for along time. It sounds like it was a huge success.

Thank you so much for all that you do. You are awesome. This week went by quickly, I don't know how it went by so quickly we spent a lot of time finding this week and didn't have a lot of people willing to talk to us, but we kept doing it because this message is so important. I know that this church is true. This week has been interesting our mission and the world is changing. For example I learned that as of next month every apartment is going to have a small portable DVD player. Crazy that will be hard for some missionary's not to watch movies through the week. We are getting one because of a new training method that the church is implementing and it involves watching some training DVDs interesting. It will be interesting to see what this new training will be.

This week we have seen a few miracles. One is with Mr. Huang2, Daniel is his English name. He has a word of wisdom problem and so we talked to him about it last week. He was a bit worried about being about to follow it but he is doing amazing. He was smoking about 10 cigarettes a day four days ago. We talked about why he needs to follow it and promised him blessings, also we asked him to set a goal for when he would be completely obeying this commandment and also a date that he could receive baptism. He was a bit worried because of this problem and was worried that he was not going to be able to make a July goal. But we promised him blessings and told him that we are here to help him and he personally set the goal. As a last night he had only smoked two that day. He had gone from 10 down to 2 in two days. That is the power of his faith and his desire to follow what the Lord had told him to do. He is awesome and he is going to keep doing well. That was the miracle for yesterday, and for this week. There are so many more but that is the biggest one. Huge miracles. We are so blessed.

Thank you so much for your help. I got your message from the mission office and I had just talked to the bike shop. I am still riding the bike, because they told me that in Taipei there was a person that could help me that also could speak English. I called him and he told me that all he needed was some photos and a warranty info. So I sent him some photos and I gave him Luckas Hoffmens email so we can get this worked out. It sounds like to buy a new bike and get a new frame will take about the same amount of time and so we I'll wait. I won't do anything hard on my bike. It is ok and so I haven't gone to buy a new bike. I tried to just give my bike to the shop here and they said that they would just have to put it in the back. So I'll keep using it.

Mom you said that you wanted to go and but a thumb drive. There are a bunch of things that are cheaper here than in America. I have seen the New Ipod all touch screen that stuff. Do you want me to get you anything? You're all so awesome let me know if I can help at all.
