Success: by this point there are several of you that are really tired I'm sure how did it go? I hope that you all had a blast! I am doing great and I've got a lot to tell this week. We will start with that fact that I am not moving this transfer! Yes, the end of another transfer has come and I am staying. But I have some stories to tell.
Wednesday night, the Assistants called me and asked if I could take a new missionary out on Thursday night for two hours for his first night in the mission field. They told me that we had to have them back by about 8:30 or early enough that we could still be home by 9:00. So we made some changes to our schedule and went. We had a seven o-clock lesson and we where to be at the mission home at six. Our plan was to go back to our area and go to the lesson and try to do work, then go back and we would have to have him dropped off by 8:00 to we could be home by 9:00. We live in Tianmu which is about a 20 min subway ride away from the mission home; but the Subway is about 20 min from the mission home and about 5 to 10 min from our apartment. So it takes about an hour to get to the mission home. Well, we raced we ran the entire night! This is why: To be at the mission home by 5:45 like they told us to be, we had to leave our area by about 4:45. So that is no problem we can do it. 4:00 however we had a lesson planned with an investigator that usually comes late.... So we bought a thing we call bao1zi3 it is stuff wrapped in bread and then steamed for dinner. Tastes good. So we get out of the lesson on time we had a bike that we where going to use to help get this Elder to the appointment. We needed to stop at the house to get that and then go the the subway, but the helmet for the bike was at the church. We forgot to grab the helmet from the church and so we had to go back. It was about 4:50 at this point, and we had all the way to go to the mission home. Well we get to the mission home they tell us who we get to go out with that night and as soon as we know we take off running. We got to go with an Elder Hall and ya cool Elder. We get back and...
to be continued.
So we get back and we have enough time to do some contacting. I'm not sure how, but we did, and we had a great lesson with a yan2 and we taught him about reading the Book of Mormon. He is cool. Anyway long story short, we where able to to that and then be back by 9:10. At 9:00 however I get another phone call from the assistants. They asked me to be back to the mission office by 9:00 the next morning to pick up my new companion. Yup I am training again!! Fun stuff. OK, I need to back up for a sec.
I sent some photos of me making fun of the dress fashion here in Taiwan. They wear fake glasses all the time, you see them all the time and well, they look weird! My companion, Elder Miller, and I found some and bought them for 19 qual, like 30 cents and so I sent some of those photos.
I also sent some photos of the most recent baptism here in the Tianmu ward. It was a young man named zhong1 shi2 yong4. He is 14 and he is the first to be baptized in his family. Some of his best friends are members and the parents like the church. This is the first step that that family is taking to bring that family, their friends, into the church. He is cool and it has been fun to get to know him.
This last week I have had the opportunity to be offered a job at a bike store as a tour guide, office man and a sells rep! Cool thing. We are good friends with the local Giant bike shop and they apparently are looking for a person that can speak English and Chinese to take white people out on rides in the mornings and stuff. I told them that when I come back to Taiwan I will be there in a heart beat but this is more important right now. That is cool! I told them that and they said of you get in touch with us and you have a job when you come back. Fun stuff.
OK so now I've told you about Thursday, about fake glasses, about the job offer, about the fact that I'm training, oh, the Taiwanese Hobbs...
In my ward there is this brother that I think he and Hobbs must be like brothers or something because this brothers English name is Guava. He acts the same, speaks somewhat the same, except he is from Taiwan. If he was white I'd say they have to be brothers, funny. I met him and started to think who he seemed like and well it is Brother Hobbs.
So what else; My new companion is Elder Reynolds. He is from the Utah valley and he went to SVU. He is 19 years old and he is cool. He did some study abroad trips through SVU to China, and so he has been around. He is about 6"1', quite tall, but not that tall. So it will be a fun transfer. I put some photos of him in the emails earlier, so you can get a feel for him.
This last few days while we have been waiting for a bike to come for my companion we have been walking and man after walking for two days I'm going to be glad for a bike to ride again. I have mine, but my comapnions don't have theirs because one is coming and one just moved to a place called Ba1da2.
I am so grateful for this gospel. I am not sure how much more time I have today. I heard about that Elder you talked about and I heard that he is from ST George. He went to Pine view. I am not going to let that happen to me. I'll be careful, know that I love you all.
Thank you for the update on the family and the world. It is crazy that Virgina had that big of an earth quake. That's crazy. I hope that no one got hurt.
I know that this church is true. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that our Savior Jesus Christ lives and that through him we have a hope. I thank my Father in Heaven that I have this chance to be here.
Thank you for all that you do. I love you. Be safe, have fun and know that I love you
